lyrics
Bright-eyed, feeling wise.
Pencil, paper, bricks and mortar.
“Synthesise pretty lines of lies, keep them civilised.
Or look inside, analyse,
You’ve been to hell too, more to sell to suits and ties.”
Demands on my supply. Reserves are running dry.
And I realise
I’m terrified
It doesn’t arrive.
How do I kill a canvas that’s not alive?
“Capitalise on sacrifice.
Absorb their stress into your chest and empathise,
Hear the cries and harmonise.”
And I rely on something on the side,
Hand to mouth is harder when your hands are tied,
Just above the line. And nothing I make is mine
I’m just the shell in which it hides.
I’ll give you all I have inside
Then I’ll be thrown back into the tides,
Looking for the next parasite to pearlise.
Maybe I shouldn’t even try.
Push the pull away and let the magic die,
Forget about the ‘why’.
But it always over-rides, and just decides.
The chains contain the veins connecting all our lives.
Before I finally cut the ties
I’ll be the womb in which it thrives.
The earth through which it strives.
The tomb from which it will rise.
Let me live, not only survive.
